2015 Glades to Gulf
The Forgotten Coast
Glades to Gulf 2015 Expedition
What was the Expedition?
The trek began in the Everglades Headwaters and stretched west along the coast of the Florida Panhandle to the Gulf Islands National Seashore at the Florida/Alabama border.
Expedition Outcomes
Initial identification of threats, points of concern and potential blockages. Puts it on the map in the public eye.
Why The Expedition?
The Corridor team and many partner organizations continue to advocate for the protection of the “missing links” of the Corridor, estimated at roughly two million acres of high priority lands still in need of protection to improve the health of life-sustaining freshwater flows. We highlighted stories of ecological importance, including Longleaf Pine restoration and the health of the Gulf fishery, expanding the statewide corridor vision west to Alabama to capture another critical 1000 mile segment connecting Florida to the forests and rivers of the Gulf States.
